Diwali Outfit Ideas: What to Wear This Festive Season
1 min read
Diwali is a week of lights, family and food, which means lots of events and plenty of photographs. A little planning makes dressing easy.
For the Lakshmi pooja
Traditional is best. A silk-blend saree or a rich cotton-silk suit in red, maroon, mustard or green looks graceful. Keep it comfortable enough to sit on the floor for the pooja.
For family visits
Choose festive kurta sets or printed kurtis with a dupatta. Soft fabrics are practical when you are eating, hugging and moving around all evening.
For parties
This is where you can experiment. Think sequins, satin sarees, gown-style suits or dresses in deep jewel tones like emerald, wine and navy.
Colours that glow in diya light
- Gold, mustard and marigold yellow.
- Deep reds, maroons and pinks.
- Bottle green and teal.
- Royal blue and purple for an evening look.
Accessories
Statement earrings, bangles and a potli bag add the finishing touch. Keep either the jewellery or the outfit bold, not both.
Safety and comfort
Around diyas and sparklers, avoid very loose, flowing sleeves and highly flammable synthetic fabrics. Cotton blends are a safer, comfortable option.
